Those unfamiliar with Australian geography will be able to locate Tasmania on the following map.

Where it all started!!

The first idea of a "get together" came from a meeting of this group. And the "get together" resulted in the formation of Korea Veterans Tasmania.

(L. to R) M. Rayner, M. Wheeler, C. Bonney, T. Williams,

R. Patterson, J. Green.

The photo was taken on J. Green's front fence in Launceston. (1991) Rex Patterson is the only surviving member, the other Veterans having passed away from war-caused injuries and complaints occasioned by the Korean War.

Welcome: A hearty welcome to our new member Arthur Quarrell who served as a Private in the Korean War with 3rd Battalion The  Royal Australian Regiment from 13th January 1953 to 21st June 1953. Arthur was born in Hobart. His Corps: Royal Australian Infantry Corps.

General:

Due to much hard work by the Ladies Auxiliary of Funds Raising (with assistance from Government and Local Government Councils), we are now fortunate to have venues (Parks) established in each region. These provide excellent venues for an annual Barbecues "get together", that produces a great feeling as it also brings together family groups from all over Tasmania as well as visiting Veterans. These three Park areas have commemorative plaques which were officially dedicated during appropriate ceremonies.

On Saturday 12th April 2003 a Memorial Dedication Service was held at the Anglesea Barracks, Hobart,  when the then Governor of Tasmania, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Guy Green, AC, KBE., unveiled a new memorial commemorating the Korea War 1950 - 56.

The 6 ft. obelisk design monument is sited in the Anglesea Barracks Memorial Garden and Gun Park, in the corner bounded by, the Hospital Grounds and Royal Hobart Bowls Club.

Attention is drawn to the fact that Anglesea Barracks in Hobart , is the oldest established and continually used Barracks in Australia, and Fort Direction at the mouth of the Derwent River (an ideal week-end Barracks with all facilities). Their use is granted to Korea Veterans on an annual basis by the Army Commander of that year, currently Lt. Colonel Julian Heath. Fort Direction has a beautiful , quiet and clean beach, a boat launch ramp and cliff walks which look out over Bruny Island and Storm Bay - and with a clear view towards the Antarctic. This venue has been a Fort since the Boer War and historically has been used to develop Cadet Corps and C.M.F. Junior Leaders' skills in all stages of development and training. It is essential that these important areas, already established, should not be sold or closed down. Also it is a premier heritage site with the 1833 guardhouse, the 1814 military hospital, the 1846 stone military prison, the 1824 field officers' married quarters, the original 1820 barracks, the two storied stone 1850 barracks and the 1833 soldiers' taproom.
